Farewell Eric (and Lorna)

Eric & Lorna Gray – Stranraer Februrary 2007 [JH]

Morning All

Unfortunately, I have to be the bearer of sad news.

I heard that Eric died yesterday, (10th Nov). I believe that it is to be a private funeral. That is all the information I have at the moment, and if I get any more, I will let you know.

Eric joined Lanark Curling club in 1968 (with Lorna joining 4 years earlier in 1964). He continued to play for many years before finally retiring in the late 2000’s.

Even after his retirement from the game, you would regularly see Lorna and himself attending finals of our club competitions. He was also an Honorary Member of the club.

He was a true gentleman and will be sadly missed.

I will arrange to send a card to his son Richard and family on behalf of the Club, with our condolences.

Regards
Hugh

  1. Thanks Hugh sad news again. I only met him and his late wife at the prize givings but Richard was my first skip when I joined (very patient!) and I knew Jane, his wife, and the boys when they attended Braidwood Primary.

Thanks for the card we received from Lanark Curling Club. This was much appreciated. Thanks to all for keeping us in their thoughts.

I wanted to update you on funeral arrangements.

My Dad wanted a small private funeral, so we shall seek to respect those wishes and arrangements made will replicate as much as possible those which were in place at the time of my Mum’s passing.

The funeral will take place on Wednesday next (23rd), with the funeral cortege departing the house on Station Road shortly before 1pm on that day.

I have no idea if members will wish to pay their respects to my Dad that day on Station Road or not. But in the event that anyone does wish to do so, I should be most grateful if these arrangements be notified to club members.

    Kind regards

    Richard

  3. It was gratifying to see the Club represented by a number of our members today, outside Eric & Lorna’s home, paying homage to the memory of Eric. RIP.
