A Word From Our President Fiona For 2021

Welcome to 2021.

I am sure you will agree that 2020 has been one of the strangest and most challenging years that we have faced, not only as a Curling club member but also in our everyday life’s. I have managed to work all the way through the COVID-19 year however I did have a period of Isolation as a colleague tested positive. Some of us will have felt heart ache and pain at the loss of a loved one and friends, our thoughts are with you through these tough times.

December brought some good news with the announcement of vaccinations, but we must not be complacent, keep washing hands, wearing face coverings, avoid crowds and keep two meters apart.

Many sports will not be able to continue with these restrictions in place and it would be safe to say that club curling will not go ahead for 2020/21.

I am sure that you will agree that Hugh and Gordon have done a sterling job keeping us up to date with match and date changes at the start of the Covid-19 restrictions and keeping us informed through the year as, yet, more restrictions and changes had to be made.

They really have gone above and beyond to help keep Lanark Curling Club running smoothly.

I Personally would like to thank them both for their hard work. Taking on the role as president has been very strange with the year that we have endured however, it has been possible with the help and guidance that the duo has given me.

Many great double acts spring to mind,

Bat Man and Robin, The Two Ronnie’s,  The Proclaimers, you can decide!

I have been out in the cold weather looking at the ice that has formed on the rivers and fields wondering when curling will return.

We are a long way from the finish line but there is hope and light on the horizon for a more normal future to come. Please be mindful of everyone and each other, take time to give someone a quick call or send a message. We are all in this together and together we will get through it.

Take care and stay safe.
