Farewell Jean Duff (New Monklands)

Dear Shareholder Club Curler

Please find below a copy of the email sent to all New Monkland members by their secretary John Jarvie with details of the funeral arrangements for Jean Duff.

Jean was an enthusiastic member of the Shareholders Club for many years and even during her long illness could be found on the ice on a Wednesday evening with a smile – and latterly her cue !

She will be sadly missed

Regards

Lockhart

STRANRAER 2015 [JH]

Dear fellow members

It is my sad duty to let you know that Jean Duff died yesterday after a long battle with cancer.

She has been a loyal and active member of our club since the 1980s serving as president and treasurer. She will be missed by us all.

Jean’s funeral is to take place at Gartcosh Parish Church on Saturday 8th December at 10.00am. Thereafter at Dunlop cemetery at 12.00noon.

The family have asked that we do not wear black ties, bright colours are preferred. Jean’s daughter has also suggested that a club jersey would be very acceptable.

The club with Jane’s assistance will send a wreath in the Swiss flag colours in honour of her great enthusiasm for Zermatt.

Regards

John (Jarvie – Secretary)

  1. Email to John

    Good morning John,

Just received the email from Lockhart and your original email to New Monklands’ Members. Sad news indeed. It was always great fun playing (mucking about is probably more appropriate(;>) with Jean, so thought I’d delve into some of my pics from which I have embellished both the emails as to a Posting on our Website – HERE . I trust this was okay and if so you may wish to forward the link to your members?

At the moment I have a heavy cold, but ABW I hope to be along tomorrow to pay my respects and relive some memories.

  2. On the bright Saturday morning both Anne and myself attended Jean’s funeral (Celebration of Her Life) at Gartcosh Parish Church. The Church was almost full with some hundreds of friends & family attending. I’m sure looking down she would have appreciated it.

For the ‘memory’ I have added the Celebration of Life booklet to this Post (See the Tab above) in which on the last page is a lovely poem narrated by one of her nieces.
