Major Ice Plant Failure At The LIR

I am extremely sorry to be the bearer of more bad news but this morning at around 7am the Ice Rink refrigeration plant suffered a major breakdown.

This involved a failure of a valve on the ammonia system. It became apparent this afternoon that a quick repair was not possible and that the entire plant will have to be decommissioned, all ammonia removed before the repair can take place. This could take perhaps a week then more time to get the ice back.

We are currently looking at the possibility of hiring a temporary plant.

The office will be in touch with you all as soon as we have an idea when we will be up and running. Until then all Curling and Skating is cancelled.

Kind Regards

Lockhart

  1. I spoke with Janette this morning and was told the following.

There is to be a Board meeting tonight, the outcome of which will be mailed to the club secretaries tomorrow morning, which I will then pass on to all of you.

Confirmation received that there will be no Curling this week.

In respect of meetings, (Lanarkshire Province and Lanark AGM’s are scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday this week) it is business as usual and they can go-ahead. The Restaurant will be open, any pre-booked meals require to be re-confirmed with Stewart.

Please treat all of this as provisional until we see the outcome of The Board Meeting. As we know things can change.

I plan to send out the Agenda for the AGM including the reports that are available to me, later today.

I will be in touch again tomorrow hopefully bringing greater clarity, as so far it has been anything but.

    Happy Days.

    Gordon.

  2. The Directors of Lanarkshire Ice rink have taken the decision, in light of the serious Plant Breakdown to end the 2021-22 curling season at Hamilton. They have looked at the possibility of hiring a temporary plant however issues with cost and noise disturbance together with uncertainty over the suitability of the plant have made this unrealistic.

The repair to our own plant will begin later this week and will take at least a week to complete by which time the curling lines and markings will be gone and it would take a further two weeks to get curling ice back. It is hoped that we will be able to salvage some skating sessions towards the end of the month and into April when the schools are on holiday.

While all unplayed fixtures in Ice Rink competitions and leagues will be rescheduled for the beginning of next season, clubs will be given the option of whether they wish to reschedule any lost ice or receive a credit for it on their next season’s bill or indeed a mixture of both. A form to allow this is attached. We would ask that this could be returned by Monday 28th March.

Although the Curling season at Hamilton is over, Stewart and his team in the restaurant are still very much open for business by arrangement. All Club Dinners will take place as arranged and Stewart can be contacted on 07986 321061 or icekoolcatering@mail.com to arrange functions etc throughout the closed season. The Directors hope that our clubs will continue to support Stewart as they have done during this season.

    Kind Regards

    Lockhart
