The 2020 Boswall Trophy was re-scheduled to take place on 28 October 2021. As is the case with many Clubs, Boswall could only field one or actually, 3/4 of one Rink.

Lanark were represented by Bob Thomson; Gregor Noble; Hugh Campbell; June Faulds: The Boswall Rink: Pat Eddington; Harry Waugh; David Murgatroyd; and the ‘on Loan’ Gordon Fraser: Handicap/Super Sub. You decide.

The first 4 ends were tight +1 alternating between Lanark and Boswall. With the match evenly poised Lanark gained a 2 shot advantage in the fifth and sixth ends and held a 5-3 lead going into the final end. Lanark extended their advantage in the seventh and final end, seemingly coasting to victory. Until the last Boswall stone was delivered that is. From memory Lanark were lying 2 shots, with probably an equal number of (both rinks) stones in the head, tightly guarded by both Boswall and Lanark stones.

The final Pat Eddington stone remains a bit of a blur to my failing memory, except to say he hit one of the Boswall front in house guard stones, perfect weight, perfect line, perfectly swept, (I had to say that) setting off a chain reaction of strikes, bumps, dunts, nudges, squeezes, scuffs, you name it, it was all there’. The outcome a 4 shot turnaround, Boswell +2 for the end and a peeled final result 5-5. Unbelievable! Never witnessed anything like it?

Boswall being the holders of the trophy retain the Cup. Leaving Lanark wondering, how the **** did we lose that??

The traditional meal was enjoyed by all after the event and Hugh happily presented Boswall with the trophy. He looked happy!

So come on Lanark, lets do better next time just rethink the handicap strategy’

Apologies for the late posting. Technical hitch- me!
