Jolipestal 2019 – Lanark Is This Seasons Winners

The JOLIPESTAL

Well done both rinks – Jack’s (JH), Bill (BJ), Anne (AH) and Dorothy (DN) +8 and Hugh’s+Bob (BT) Ian (IR) Alistair (AK) and Hugh (HC) +5 , giving a cumulative total of +13. Checkout the table – HERE.

In my own case steady play against Lesmahagow Ladies allowing them to take only two ends with a final score of 12/4 (+8). However Hugh’s (due to the injury to his leg earlier this season, was taking the Skip position with assistance from Bob, after delivering his Lead stones) developing game was pretty tight against East Kilbride & Haremyres with a touch of ‘nip and tuck’, neither rink gaining a significant advantage. However heading into the 6th end at 3 all, the lads were successful in taking a 3 and now into the 7th at 6/3 with a subsequent 1’s in the 7th and 8th giving an overall result of 8/3 (+5).

Now at the halfway stage Lanark was the highest up rink at +8 but closely followed by Coulter and our own Tom Steele – skipping Lesmahagow Men, both on +7. So these were the teams to watch.

Lesmahagow Ladies were giving a good showing against Coulter eventually ending 5/7 (+2) to Coulter. But New Monklands were struggling against Lesmahagow Men – 7/1 going into the 6th end, and with Lanark not able to pull away in their game at this point, Lanark retaining the top position wasn’t looking too good. However John pulled 1 back from Lesmahagow in the 6th end, going 2/7 into the 7th, but not retaining the hammer. By the time of Skip’s stones Jim had successfully buried one of his rink’s earlier stones almost on the ‘pot-lid’ and had it well covered with a guddle in the front. All that was on for John with his last stone was a double promotion along the centre line to the counter. And it came off – well done John! New Monklands were now lying 4 and a draw by Jim was well covered by the front guddle. An attempt was made but came up short. New Monklands had stolen 4 with the final score 7/6 (+1) Lesmahagow, and overall a ‘peel’ with Coulter – at +9. Thanks John you made our day (and no doubt your own with that superb shot).

And this year’s Highest Up Rink was Dippool’s afternoon rink – W Sommerville, P Marsh, E Warren and I Orr. Well done ‘lads’!

A big thank you to our team & organising members. Also a big thank you to all the Club’s coming along and continuing to support this competition. It’s appreciated.

Till next year.
