Hi folks,

Having curled at FENTON’s along with my wife a few years ago, I have always thought that it would be good to curl at other rinks within England. As such I have included your endeavours over the last couple of years within a POST on our WEBSITE keeping our members aware of developments. So it’s looking that you might be getting there (with a few hurdles to surmount) – at long last. I have got to admire your team for your tenacity in what in England is seen as an ‘invisible’ sport – ‘not cricket old man’ or footba!!!.

Good luck and we will be watching for a successful conclusion with a hopeful invitation to come and play a game or two. But remember don’t become too good at the sport it’s one that Scotland is pretty good at 🙂 Wishing you all the best for the forthcoming year – Lanark Curling Club.

As curling is not cricket there is an almost insurmountable ‘boundry’ in trying to have venues made available in England and outwith FENTONS it continues to be an uphill struggle trying to get commitment to our sport down south. However things are maybe looking up in the County of Berkshire – extracted off the Berkshire Curling Centre website:

January 2015 ‘The Berkshire Curling Centre is still waiting for the council to decide on the change of use planning application that was lodged in December 2013.

The Berkshire Curling Centre will be on the edge of Bracknell (in the Windsor direction) in the village of Hayley Green, about 2 miles from Bracknell Town Centre. The existing building has already been refurbished with thickly insulated roof and walls and will take about four months to complete once the planning consent is given.

The facility will be the second dedicated curling rink in England and will offer beginner and improver courses, regular club and social curling, local, national and international competitions as well as come and try, school and corporate sessions. The Berkshire Curling Centre will run their Promotion Programme – a competitive pathway to Nationals and beyond – and all participants will be encouraged to enjoy the benefits of improving their skills in the friendly, social atmosphere of the Berkshire Curling Centre’
