Hi all

Happy New Year.

You will recall that I had forwarded to you an email, prior to xmas, from the Development Officer re the Virtual Club curlers who are looking to play some games with club curlers for experience, fun and to help with their onward progression of the game.

Jim Morrison, Development Officer, has now organised some dates/times and if anybody in Lanark CC could play, thus helping with this LIR development, then please let Jim (or myself) know asap. Jim’s email is listed above.

The dates are:

24 Jan – at 2.30pm

31 Jan – 2.30pm

7 Feb – games at 2.30pm, 5.45pm and 7.55 (just pick what one you wish)

21 Feb – 7.55pm

13 March – 7.55pm

Virtual curlers can only stay with the Virtual club for 2 years and then they need to find a club – this is a good opportunity for Lanark CC to show that we are not only a friendly club but one that is willing to assist also thus we could attract new members. We all have a part to play in getting new members.

This is also a good opportunity for club members to try a position further up the rink – if you wish to play further up the rink then this can be arranged so we, as club curlers, are learning also. A win-win situation for all who take part.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi – I’m circulating this on behalf of the Development Officer. This is a great opportunity for all players who would like experience to ‘move up the rink’. Until we know how many people are interested then no dates can yet be confirmed.

So, if you would like to show an intention of interest, then can you please let me know? You’re not committing yourself at this stage……but it would be nice to get this idea off the ground.

Personally I think it is a good idea to utilise the expertise of the ice rink in addition to what the club can offer its members. Looking fwd to receiving some responses….

Best wishes

Anne 🙂

Novice League

We have now been able to establish two Virtual clubs in Lanarkshire, one at Hamilton and one at East Kilbride with a total of around thirty members, all of whom are keen to improve their curling skills and begin to become involved in learning and playing. The virtual clubs will provide coaching and organise games where they can put into practise what they learn but it does not give real game experience, nor are they really sure of what they should be doing when asked to skip, or play at third.

We would once again like to form a Novice League for the latter half of the season to help resolve this lack of experience and allow the new curlers to play lead and second with slightly more experienced players taking the other roles. Players who currently in their club games only play lead or second have the opportunity to broaden their experience and skills by moving up to third and Skip. You will be playing with complete beginners and mistakes are going to be inevitable but it’s all a learning experience for everyone. It’s also an opportunity to begin to explain some of the finer points of the etiquette of the game, the strategies, the range of shots and the social aspect of the game. The last point is probably the most important, these new curlers have to find a club to join, they can only remain within the virtual system for two seasons. This would be a great chance to tell them how, where and when your club operates, and possibly invite them to a game.

We are aiming at five sessions throughout January to end March, plus a final. Games will be on Sundays at 7.55pm with one exception when we play at 2.30 For this, we need curlers who want to expand their experience and play at third and skip and who will understand that the remainder of their team may not be that good…….to begin with!!

If this sounds like it’s something you would like to try, please either phone me on 07-725-162-960, or email me at jmprop@btinternet.com

Thanks,

Jim Morrison

If you already have some new curlers in your club and they want to gain some experience in a less competitive environment than a club game, you may wish to direct them towards our Virtual Club. This brings together curlers in their first and second year of playing and allows them to get to know the game a little better without the pressure and worry of “letting the team down”.

For more information about the Virtual Club please contact me on 07-725-162-960 or at email jmprop@btinternet.com

Thanks

Jim
