LAWRIE TROPHY

26/03/16 – JH – Although I updated the LAWRIE STANDINGS when we originally won the trophy, I didn’t notice that we were equal ‘pegging’ with Lesmahagow at 10 each. So can we pull ahead for 11 with a win in Nov 2016? Great stuff!!!

16/11/15 – DM – Plus 5 to plus 25. Lanark DM BS HC AM v Lanark Ladies.

Always a pleasure to play against Lanark Ladies and always expect a tough match but with a good team things can happen.

First end : team played well and with skips stones to go Lanark lying 3, after skips stones Lanark lying 3, so much for skips stones.

End 2, Anne played great stones and had us counting 2, Hugh next and 2 guards, Bryan next one in the four foot and one guard, skip played more guards and Lanark to score 3, 6 up.

End 3 Lanark Ladies played some good shots but with some fine hitting from Bryan and a friendly tap up from the opposition another 4 shots, 10 up.

End 4 Lanark get in early and cover up, no place for the Ladies to get a shot, 5 to Lanark, 15 up.

End 5. It all went wrong and one heavy draw from Donald sees the Ladies score 3, Lanark now 15-3 up. Keeping an eye one the other sheets saw Biggar, Lesmahagow & Coulter well up.

Back to the game and a tight end with the front end playing well and a proper draw from Donald, 1up, now 16-3.

End 7, a barrage of draws from Lanark and a tricky bit of ice sees Lanark score 4, 20 – 3 up.

Last end looking good with three shots, the Ladies tried to draw but were heavy and Lanark lay 3, Final score 23 – 3. Team played great shots swept hard and had the rub of the green. Lanark wins Lawrie trophy with a combined score of +25.

Donald 😆

13/11/15 – MD – Well done all. I am with you in spirit though not in person.

Best Regards

Moray

13/11/15 – JH – Donald’s Post to follow

13/11/15 – AH

On 12 November Lanark competed for the Lawrie trophy which is held within the Biggar & Upperward Province.  Congratulations to the following members who brought back the LAWRIE TROPHY to Lanark.

Team 1: Bill Jackson BJ, Anne Hood AH, Martin Yuill MY, Jack Hood JH – who played DIPPOOL CC  and won with +5 shots.  It was a great game with some lovely shots being played by everyone but there was one exceptional shot by Bill Jackson.  Dippool were guarding one stone in the 2 foot – 3 Lanark stones surrounded it but there were plenty of guards at front of house.  Bill saw a stone lying on the 12 foot and stated that if he could just ‘flick off this – with weight’ the angle may be on to take out the shot stone.  It was one of those Mission Impossible shots but, you know what, Bill called it; played it and it came off.  I’ve never seen any opposition looking so dejected but even they recognised how good the shot was and duly congratulated Bill.  The shot gave Lanark +4 at this end – we never looked back after that.

Team 2: Donald Macrae DM, Brian Stephenson BS, Hugh Campbell HC and Anne Macrae AM gladly took on our +5 shots and off they went to play Lanark Ladies.  They had a phenomenal score ie 23-3 and more details of this game, with pictures, will follow shortly.

First piece of silver to Lanark this season.  Congratulations.

Anne 🙂
