LANARKSHIRE PROVINCE KNOCKOUT – A close ‘Call’ for Lanark

20/10/14 – Lanarkshire Province Knockout: Monday 2200hrs @ The LIR – Donald, Brian & Jack represented the Club in the first round of this annual K/O competition against last years winners Coulter – skipped by Bryce Smith. (Incidentally it was Lanark v Coulter in the final last year where Lanark narrowly missed out 7/8)

Unfortunately the ‘lads’ started from a point of weakness when there was a diary/phone ‘glich’ with our lead who didn’t make it. So playing just three players – following RCCC rules Coulter were awarded 3 shots. The game then continued to take an ominous turn with Coulter taking another 2 shots in the first end and a further 1 in second making them 5 up after two ends.

However the ‘brush’ wasn’t chucked in just yet and the lads started fighting back taking the next 5 ends – 1 shot at-a-time. So after 7 ends the score was now 6/5 to Coulter.

Going into the 8th with last stone, good tactics by Bryce made sure that there was nothing for Lanark to hide behind for a steal forcing Donald to try a high power triple takeout shot for a two. Unfortunately it didn’t come off with Coulter taking 2 with Bryce’s last stone making it 8/5 to Coulter. 😥
